It was a great honor for us when we were called by the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid to make a Monamour Natural Design vertical garden in the Conference Room. It is a very prestigious institution that depends on the CSIC (National Center of Scientific Investigation).
The Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid is an 8-hectare botanical garden located at Murillo Square, in front of the Prado Museum. Today it is divided into three major outdoor sections (terraces) and two greenhouses. Total collections include about 30,000 plants and flowers, and 1,500 trees. It also contains the largest herbarium in Spain, about one million of herbal drawing sheets, some of the eighteenth century. The library of the Royal Botanical Garden contains over 2000 works on Botany, Natural History and Chemistry.
How do we have to deal with the composition of a vertical garden in a place so rich in history, science and culture? As Albert Einstein said: “Everything you can imagine, nature has already created it”.
Our initial idea was to create a vertical garden as a wider window. A window that opens to a new horizon, physical but also metaphorical.
To pay tribute to the incredible work of the Botanical Garden, we decided to combine the scientific aspect of the research (the painstaking work of cataloguing and the ancient herbal sheets) with the unpredictable beauty of nature and the artistic representation.s The “horizon” of the beginning has become an organic cartography at different scales, which all species of natural preserved plants and flowers that we use in our creations are referenced. They have been composed according to colour, forms, scale…
The Taxonomy is the practice and science of classification of things or concepts, including the principles that underlie such classification.
In our garden, the organic taxonomy becomes an ideal path, a sort of imagery walk in the Nature… “and in any walk in nature one receives far more than what it seeks”. (John Muir)

Since the plants are preserved they do not require any maintenance, therefore the technology drawings are not needed.

MONAMOUR NATURAL DESIGN
Monamour Natural Design – Design & Creative vertical gardens and indoor landscaping
Monamour Natural Design is a high-standard indoor landscaping studio, pioneering in realizing customer-tailored vertical gardens with natural preserved plants.
All plants have undergone a delicate process that replaces vegetable sap with glycerine. The appearance and feel are completely natural with a further advantage, they will no longer need neither water nor light.
Monamour Natural Design has always had a keen interest in research and innovation; each project becomes a unique piece. “Green” is not only a mere decorative element but it’s turned into a multipurpose installation of wonderful vertical gardens that can be adapted to different and various functions, for the joy of our prospective customers.
Beyond its usual production, from its very early stages, Monamour Natural Design has developed and created unique works of art, small limited numbered collections between nature and art.
Thanks to the collaboration with the architect and artist Claudia Bonollo, Monamour Natural Design has designed an exclusive research brand that embodies natural elements and creates artistic objects with an almost endless array of combinations. These experimentations are meant to innovate the use of the “green” and its languages, exploring the limits of the materials in use.
Monamour Natural Design’s work was selected and exhibited in the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 editions of Estampa Design Partners.
It was also chosen to create a “vegetal cathedral” (Auditorium) and the materials hall for the 20th CASA DECOR – Art Décor Fair in Madrid.
Its collections have been exhibited in art galleries and international fairs and won several design awards.
In 2014, Monamour Natural Design, was invited to interpret and exhibit its own version of “summer terrace” for the Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid, a flexible installation – The Pop up Garden by monamour natural design – open in summer for three months. For this project Monamour Natural Design won the 2nd Award at The International Competition PIDA- PAESAGGIO .
“Monamour Natural Design products are nature itself, in all its splendour, energy and vitality of inhabitable spaces. Edited by Denis Broduriès and designed by Claudia Bonollo, they offer a wide-array of artistic applications, made with moss, ferns and leaves, travelling across natural and primitive spaces…”
